Wallaby (or Wally for short) was found wandering in a common dumping ground behind the Sweetwater Veterinary Hospital.  A kind, Good Samaritan reached out to us for help with this guy!  Wallaby is a happy, silly guy with lots of energy.  Wallaby has shoulder dysplasia which can cause some pain near his neck/shoulder area.  On 3 different occasions, Wally quickly nipped out of pain when his neck area was touched.  His pain levels and medical condition are better controlled now with daily joint supplements and anti-inflammatory medicine as needed.  However, because of this diagnosis, we feel he would do best in a home with older kids who will respect his space.  He would also do best in a home where he is not confined into a small space for long periods of time (kennel) as this causes Wally more pain.  He gets along well with dogs outside but can be a bit possessive inside the house if he has pent up energy or doesn’t get enough mental and physical stimulation.

Wallaby is a high energy dog and since he is a poodle mix, he will require regular grooming and brushing!  He will also require not only physical stimulation, but mental stimulation as well. This includes activities such as treat balls and puzzles, snuffle mats, hiking/walking at different, exciting places for new smells!  He also looooooves to play fetch!  He is in his happiest place when he is outside 🌳 🌲

Wally is also prone to hot spots and we will be getting more information on this from the vet!

Daisy spent some time of her early life in a high-kill shelter where she had been found starving in the streets. Later on, she was adopted off the shelter's euthanasia list by an elderly man in his 90s. However, Daisy was too energetic and active for him to manage. Her owner tried to rehome Daisy without luck as all the shelters and rescues were full. We were full as well, but received a call to rescue Daisy while the she was at the vet's office, moments away from being euthanized for a second time! We couldn't say no to this special girl, and boy are we glad we didn't.

Daisy is a well-behaved dog, although she has a penchant for the taste of good dog beds. She loves to cuddle and play and has been tested with cats and deemed unbothered by confident felines who don’t run away.  With other dogs, Daisy prefers to be the dominant female dog and may have issues with other female dogs who are not submissive. Daisy enjoys being indoors near her humans or playing outdoors with other dogs.

Daisy needs to be fed separately from other dogs, however, she is not aggressive towards humans when it comes to food, even if something is taken away from her. Daisy has not had much socialization with young kids so she requires a home with older children that will respect her space (8+) or no children. Daisy has done great during our 'Doggy Day Out' events. She LOVES car rides and pup cups! During her last outing, she walked well on a leash while we were inside Rural King. Daisy also enjoyed getting pets strangers and familiar adults alike, and was happy to give kisses to everyone who asked for them.

Behavior Traits: Quiet, Shy, Playful, Sweet

Hello, my name is Dove.  I am a shy girl that would love to have a chance to warm up to you! I came from a hoarding situation and was not allowed to socialize with other humans. Once I warm up to you, I am the most loving and happiest furbaby around! My rescue mom says you can receive help from her to transition into your home!

I prefer to be around people that know and respect my boundaries and are willing to take their time to let me warm up to you. I will hide to feel safe.  While I may be shy with new humans, my rescue mom used me as a peer model to introduce new dogs to our rescue when I was there!  Yep, I am cool as a cucumber with new dogs and respect their space but still love to play!  My rescue mom (woofwoof fosters) works with a dog trainer and has already had me evaluated!

Dove is currently in a foster home with a number of other dogs (big and small) and has done wonderful with them.  She warmed up to her new human foster family even quicker than we could have anticipated!  This girl is so resilient!  She loves to snuggle in bed after trust is established and use pillows like a human!  Please remember the 3,3,3 rule (3 days to decompress, 3 weeks to learn the routine, and 3 months to feel at home).

What we know about Gus:
Dog Friendly

Kid Friendly
Has lived with kids and another dog previously
Awesome temperament

NO cats
Calm, great on a leash
About 2 years old
Potty trained
Crate trained
Loves snuggles

Gus came to us extremely underweight, nearly bald, with open wounds all over his body due to Demodex mange.  He has since recovered fully and is ready to find his forever family!  Gus was far too interested in the cats when we cat tested him as his herding instincts are present with these types of animals.  However, he is great with other dogs and we use him to help introduce new dogs to the rescue.

Gus has gone out on multiple Doggie Day Outs and did so well each time!  He was his happiest self at the dog park with his rescue buddy (Folly) who has since been adopted.  He likes to meet new people and go for car rides!  We think he could be a heeler mix because of the speckles but we truly still don’t have a great idea about breed.  The regrowth of hair didn’t help us with this as much as we thought it would 😂

Note: Since Gus has a history of Demodex mange, this means he is genetically predisposed to this condition if he does not take flea/tick prevention regularly.  He is currently on Simparica Trio and doing so well.  Please let us know if you have any questions about this condition!

Beauty

Birthday: February 2019

Weight: 54 lbs

Breed: Lab/Hound mix

Dog Selective

Kids 8+

Adoption Fee: $50

Behavior Traits: Affectionate, Playful, Energetic

Beauty was found wandering all alone in Sweetwater, TN near the dump by a Good Samaritan who posted on Facebook in a lost and found group but no one came forward to claim her. :( Our animal control contact then reached out to us for help with this situation and connected us with the finder. At the time, the Monroe County shelter was over capacity and euthanizing on intake. When she arrived at woofwoof fosters it appeared something strange was going on with her eyes. Turns out, she had a condition called Entropion which caused her eyelashes/eyelids to grow inwards! We scheduled her for surgery ASAP as this can lead to blindness if left untreated!

Beauty has since recovered from surgery and is now ready for adoption! She can be dog selective, particularly with other dominant females it seems. We plan to continue working with/testing her to further evaluate if she would be able to possibly live with another dog if their temperaments lined up or if she needs to be the only dog in the home. She would do best in a home without young children as she has a LOT of energy and not great body awareness. She loves to run and play and will require mental stimulation in her new home as well as frequent physical stimulation. We think some simple scent trail training or possibly snuffle mats may help meet her needs as we feel she is likely a hound mix with a curious snout!

Per our vet, Beauty could potentially need ‘touch up’ surgery on her eyes down the line if they start to bother her again.  This is not 100% guaranteed but we want to be sure we let potential adopters know that this could be a potential cost.  She also has seasonal allergies which affects her eyes as well. During the spring/summer months, Beauty will likely need eye ointment to help with this, especially if she remains in East TN.

Sassy

Fee: $175

Meet Sassy! She was surrendered to our rescue with her 3 sisters by a local family who could not afford to care for the mother dog and her puppies. Her mother is a husky mix and the family is not sure of the father. The puppies were born on March 9th and are very curious and playful! They currently live in foster care with many other dogs (medium to large) and older children and have done great with everyone. They are very smart and have started working on basic commands and potty training.

Husky and Aussies are high energy and sometimes vocal dogs. Please consider this before adopting.

Please note: This dog is a puppy and will require additional patience and training. Her adoptive family will also be responsible for completing her puppy vaccines as applicable and completing heartworm testing after the dog is 6 months old.

This dog will not be able to go to her new home until she is spayed.

Microchipped, vaccinated and up to date on monthly preventatives.

Sunshine

Birthday: October 2023

Weight: 47 lbs

Breed: Black Mouth Curr Mix

Dog Friendly

Kid Friendly

Potty Trained

Adoption Fee: $100

Meet Sunshine!  She was adopted from us a few months back as a 4 month old puppy and was returned to us at 7 months old for ‘chewing up the house’ and because of her ‘large’ size.  We’re not exactly sure how or why this came as a surprise to her adopter, but puppies are pretty notoriously bad about chewing on things, right? 🙃 She is currently about 47.12 lbs which is on the larger end of sizes but is still completely manageable even as she continues to grow.

Sunshine (Sunny) had a behavioral evaluation with our awesome trainer at Pawsitively K9 to explore the root cause for any destructive behaviors!  She did amazing and our trainer said she is a happy go lucky girl with good confidence.  She will just need a fairly active home where she can get out of the house and socialize and experience new things.  Sunshine loves water and taking her to swim would be a great way to keep her active!

At her previous adoptive home, the extent of her stimulation was free rein of a fenced in yard.  We do not believe she went on any walks or did anything outside of the house.  She just needs a family where she can be included and partake in different life experiences! Shes an all-around great puppy and already falling back into place at her previous and now current-again foster home!  She currently lives with many other dogs and kids!

Birthday: June-ish 2020

Weight: 49 lbs

Breed: Labrador Retriever/Mountain Curr mix

No Cats

Adoption Fee: $50

Behavior Traits: Playful, Shy, Unique, Introverted

Raise your hand if you have social anxiety around new hoomans! 🙋🏻‍♀️ Clancy is raising his paw right along with you!  Clancy was in the foster program through McMinn Regional Humane Society for over a YEAR now without much interest.  His foster family asked if we would be able to accept him into our rescue if they continued to foster and after we got a few adoptions, we said YES!

Clancy WAS heartworm positive but underwent treatment and is now NEGATIVE! 🥳 He loves to be around other dogs and currently lives with a canine foster sibling.  He does NOT like cats and small children make him nervous.  He requires some additional time and proper introductions when meeting new people but he warms up if these steps are taken!  His foster family says that if you ignore him and let him come to you and sniff around, he will eventually warm up and let you pet him.  Treats also help with this!

His foster family has been working very hard with him to train him to be more comfortable out in public, even going so far as to arrange public meetups with community members to give him treats on the greenway.  He is so lucky to have his foster family but he needs his forever home!  Ideally he would love to be a homebody and hang out with his people and maybe even a doggie brother or sister!

Cooper
Birthday: 5/28/2021Weight: 80 lbsBreed: Australian Shepherd mixDog FriendlyPotty Trained with Doggy DoorKid FriendlyLoves People Adoption Fee: $100                                                                                                             A bit about Cooper’s backstory: Cooper was essentially left behind by his old owners with their neighbors along with 2 other dogs from their home. While with his original owners, he lived inside and was potty trained. ? His new caretakers, however, already had multiple dogs prior to taking on these 3, so needless to say the family was very overwhelmed and reached out to us for help. He was living with his secondary caretakers for about a year before they successfully found someone (us) to help. Cooper has most recently been living outside for the past year with basic care only (food and water) but no monthly preventatives and likely no baths. He is about 20 lbs overweight currently ? (weighing in around 80lb) so we will be working on that while we have him too! He did wonderful during his grooming appointment and required 4 consecutive baths and a complete shave to get off the mats, dirt, and ticks! ? He is absolutely the sweetest goober ever and he knows how to sit, lay down, and shake!! ? He’s got a cute little wiggle butt and beautiful coat under all that grime. We think he is an Australian Shepherd mix and we are hoping that he still remembers his potty training from his previous home! So far, he’s done great using the doggie door to go potty outside in our kennels! He is already neutered and has undergone treatment for 2 types of fecal worms! He has now tested negative and is ready for adoption! He miraculously tested negative for Heartworms but he will need to be re-tested in 6 months by his adopters (or us if he is still with us at the rescue in 6 months) to ensure this doesn’t change! Microchipped, UTD on shots and preventatives.
